A sense of the place

The Fremont Street Experience is a five-block pedestrian mall in downtown Las Vegas, roofed by a giant LED canopy called Viva Vision. It opened in 1995 and marked its 30th anniversary in December 2025. Entry is free and the street is open 24 hours, with casino doors on both sides and live music on outdoor stages.

The canopy is the main event. It is about 1,375 feet long and 90 feet wide, hangs about 90 feet above the street and carries more than 49 million LEDs and a 600,000-watt sound system. The attraction says about 25,000 people a night come to see it, which is why the street gets packed just before each show.

This page covers the canopy attraction itself: the shows, stages, SlotZilla, rules and getting there. For the wider area, including the classic casinos, Fremont East bars, Container Park and the museums, read our Fremont Street and downtown Las Vegas guide.

What to look for

  • Viva Vision light shows: featured shows on the canopy start at the top of every hour from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., and each one lasts about six to eight minutes. The canopy plays other visuals around the clock.

  • Three stages: free live music runs on the Main Street Stage, the 1st Street Stage and the 3rd Street Stage. On weekends, bands can start at noon and play until 2 a.m.

  • SlotZilla zipline: SlotZilla flies riders under the canopy. Zip-Zilla is a seated ride from 77 feet that covers two blocks. Super-Hero Zoom launches from 114 feet and flies about 1,750 feet, face down, to Golden Gate.

  • Vegas Vic: the waving neon cowboy, Vegas Vic, is one of the classic signs under the canopy. Photograph him in daylight and again once the neon is on.

  • Casinos on both sides: the canopy runs past downtown casinos such as the Four Queens and Fremont Hotel & Casino, which face each other halfway along the street, so you can step inside between shows.

  • Big nights: concerts, holiday events and New Year's Eve change the crowds, the schedule and sometimes the entry rules. Check the official calendar before a special night.

When the canopy ends, keep walking east into the Fremont East district for bars and food. Our Fremont Street and downtown guide covers it, and our free things to do in Vegas guide puts the light shows alongside the Strip's freebies.

Before you go

  • Time it right: get under the canopy five to ten minutes before the hour. The middle of the street gives the widest view, and you can watch two or three shows in one evening.

  • SlotZilla prices and hours: Zip-Zilla is about $49 and Super-Hero Zoom about $69, plus fees, with a cheaper Zip-Zilla offer of about $34 from noon to 5 p.m. It runs from noon to 1 a.m. Monday to Wednesday and to 2 a.m. Thursday to Sunday. Check prices and rider rules on the official site.

  • Curfew for under-18s: on Fridays, Saturdays and legal holidays, unaccompanied minors under 18 may not be in the Fremont Street Entertainment District from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The same rule applies on New Year's Eve.

  • Security: on busy weekend nights and at big events you may go through bag checks or metal detectors, and a clear bag policy can apply. Pack light and leave anything that looks like a weapon at the hotel.

  • Parking: the Fremont Street Experience garage on 4th Street near Carson Avenue has charged about $4 an hour after the first 15 minutes, with a $20 daily maximum. Event rates can be higher, so check at the gate.

  • Getting there: downtown is not on the Monorail. From the Strip, take the Deuce bus or a rideshare; our getting around Las Vegas guide compares them.

  • From the airport: downtown is outside the airport's flat-rate taxi zones, so a cab runs on the meter and usually costs more than a Strip Zone 3 ride. The RTC's CX bus is the cheap option. See our airport to the Strip guide.

What time is the light show on Fremont Street?

Featured Viva Vision shows start at the top of every hour from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., nine shows a night. Each lasts about six to eight minutes, and the canopy shows other visuals between them. Times can change for events, so check the official calendar.

Is the Fremont Street Experience free?

Yes. Walking the street, the canopy light shows and the live music on the stages are all free, and the street is open 24 hours. SlotZilla, food and drinks cost extra, and a few special events, such as New Year's Eve, can have their own entry rules.

How much is the SlotZilla zipline?

About $49 for the seated Zip-Zilla and about $69 for the Super-Hero Zoom, plus fees. A daytime Zip-Zilla offer has been about $34 from noon to 5 p.m. Prices change, so check the official site before you go.

Can kids go to Fremont Street at night?

Yes, with an adult. Under a city ordinance, minors under 18 cannot be in the Fremont Street Entertainment District without a parent or guardian from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, legal holidays and New Year's Eve.
